1. Όλοι οι Goths πρέπει να φοράνε μαύρα. Αν φοράς χρώμα δεν είσαι Goth
Από τη μια πλευρά είναι φυσιολογικότατο να πιστεύεται κάτι τέτοιο από τους ανθρώπους καθώς υπάρχουν πάρα πολλοί Goths οι οποίοι ντύνονται συνέχεια στα μαύρα. Δε σκέφτονται όμως το ενδεχόμενο ότι μπορεί να υπάρχουν μερικοί-μερικοί που προσπαθούν να «πουλήσουν μούρη» και να δείξουν ότι είναι μάγκες με το να ντύνονται με αυτό τον τρόπο. Στην πραγματικότητα αυτός που πραγματικά ασπάζεται την gothic φιλοσοφία δε κοιτάζει την εξωτερική του εμφάνιση μόνο, αλλά κοιτάζει πρωτίστως να καλλιεργήσει τον εσωτερικό του κόσμο.

2. Οι Goths είναι μια υποκουλτούρα βασισμένη σε ένα είδος μουσικής
Και σε αυτή την περίπτωση είναι δικαιολογημένη αυτή η γνώμη καθώς η πρόσφατη ιστορία των Goths επιβεβαιώνει αυτό το μύθο. Αυτό μάλιστα μπορεί να ισχύει και για ορισμένους Goths, ότι είναι αυτό που είναι επειδή ακούνε τη μουσική που ακούνε. Το όλο σκηνικό όμως και η όλη αντίληψη δημιουργήθηκε από τα ΜΜΕ. Είναι γνωστό ότι το Gothic υπήρχε πολύ πριν δημιουργηθεί αυτό το είδος της μουσικής...

3. Όλοι οι Goths ακούνε την ίδια μουσική
Δεν ισχύει... Άνθρωποι είναι και αυτοί, θα ακούσουν και κάτι το διαφορετικό... Ακόμη και οι «επιφανειακοί» Goths δεν ακούνε συνέχεια αυτή τη μουσική –κι ας μην έχουν τα κότσια να το παραδεχθούν.

4. Όλοι οι Goths είναι γοητευμένοι με το θάνατο
Να το τονίσουμε: Το Gothic δεν έχει να κάνει με το θάνατο, με το θάνατο του σώματος. Στη φιλοσοφία των Goths ο θάνατος συμβολίζει την αλλαγή και την γνώση. Γνώση ότι τα πάντα είναι εφήμερα, ότι η χαρά και ο πόνος είναι μέρος της ζωής. Οι Goths είναι περισσότερο γοητευμένοι με την έννοια της ομορφιάς, ως έννοια αφηρημένη. Είναι γοητευμένοι με την ισορροπία του σκοτεινού και του φωτεινού, της ζωής και του θανάτου. Δεν απαρνούνται τίποτα και ζουν δίχως να φοβούνται τίποτα...

5. Όλοι οι Goths είναι σατανιστές
Εδώ τι να πω;; Αυτό είναι για γέλια! Ο καθένας πιστεύει σε αυτό που θέλει να πιστεύει. Υπάρχουν πάρα πολύ Goths οι οποίοι είναι Παγανιστές. Πάρα πολλοί οι οποίοι είναι Χριστιανοί. Άλλοι είναι Άθεοι, Αγνωστικιστές, Νεοπαγάνιστές, Σαμάνοι... Υπάρχουν βέβαια μερικοί που είναι σατανιστές αλλά αυτό είναι πολύ σπάνιο.

6. Όλοι οι Goths κάνουν χρήση ναρκωτικών
Είναι αντιληπτή και δικαιολογημένη αυτή η άποψη. Δε λέω ότι όλοι οι Goths είναι καθαροί. Υπάρχουν μερικοί που κάνουν χρήση απαγορευμένων ουσιών αλλά όχι όλοι. Είναι άδικο από ένα μέρος του συνόλου να κρίνεται όλο το σύνολο.

7. Οι Goths δε γελάνε παρά μόνο για να χλευάσουν τους άλλους
Αυτό είναι τόσο προσποιητό.... Οι περισσότεροι Goths έχουν ανεπτυγμένη σε μεγάλο βαθμό την αίσθηση του χιούμορ. Βέβαια δε γελάνε όλοι με τα ίδια πράγματα ή δε λένε όλοι τα ίδια ανέκδοτα! Υπάρχουν πολλοί Goths που ισχυρίζονται ότι δε μοιράζονται τα ίδια «κοινά» συναισθήματα με τους «κοινούς» ανθρώπους, οι οποίοι είναι «ωμοί» και ζουν για να γελάνε με τις ατυχίες των άλλων. Πολλοί όμως στην κοινωνία που ζούμε δεν προσπαθούν να είναι κάποιοι που στην πραγματικότητα δεν είναι;

8. Οι Goths έχουν τατουάζ και piercing
Τα τατουάζ και τα piercing έχουν γίνει πολύ της μόδας τον τελευταίο καιρό. Βασικά και οι Goths έχουν γίνει πολύ της μόδας... Γι’ αυτό με μια ματιά γύρω μας βλέπουμε πολλούς Goths με πολλά τατουάζ και piercing σε όλο τους το σώμα. Βλέπουμε και πολλούς άλλους ανθρώπους που δεν έχουν καμία σχέση με τη Goth να έιναι γεμάτοι τατουάζ και piercing! Το ξαναλέω: οι Goths είναι άνθρωποι και θα κάνουν ότι νομίζουν ότι τους ταιριάζει, ότι είναι ωραίο πάνω τους...

9. Οι Goths βάφονται πάντα με παράξενο και τρομακτικό τρόπο
Όχι όλοι! Εδώ θα πω ότι είπα και προηγουμένως: Οι Goths είναι άνθρωποι και έχουν τη δική τους κρίση να κάνουν ότι θέλουν πάνω στο σώμα τους, ότι τους αρέσει
